About Artswork
Information about Artswork, the national youth arts development agency who deliver ENYAN, Artsplan and Upstart online.

Who we are
Artswork is an independent, national youth arts development agency, based in Southampton.
We have developed and deliver, amongst other things:
- ENYAN
- Artsplan
- Upstart Online
Established in 1987, we are committed to generating creative opportunities for young people aged 12 – 25, with a priority for working with young people at risk.
For Artswork creative opportunities for young people means participatory arts activities by and with young people, outside of schools and other formal education settings, and outside the demands of the national curriculum.
We are a unique organisation with a track record for youth arts work outside the formal education sector. Our key role is to make a strategic impact on the quality and level of arts opportunities for young people.
We aim to support:
- professionals and volunteers currently using or looking to use the arts in their work with young people
- young people themselves
How we work
Our four main areas of work are:
Project examples:
Current projects involving direct work with young people include Hub 4. Hub 4 is a £1 million partnership project between Artswork, BBC Blast and The Prince’s Trust, funded by the Big Lottery. The project aims to work with over 5000 young people, improving education, training and employment opportunities, as well as enhancing young people’s self-confidence, skills and abilities. Hub 4 is directly supported by the Arts Council England and Connexions, and one of the main aims of the project is to build on young people’s interest in the arts and media, allowing them to gain accreditation and move on positively with their lives.
We are also the Regional Coordinators for the Arts Award in the South East.
We work across the range of diversity within youth arts including art forms, partners, organisations, sectors, and groups of young people.
As a Regional Funded Organisation for Arts Council England South East the majority of our projects involving direct work with young people take place in the South East region.
What we offer
Through formal and informal means we offer a range of advice, information and support to both practitioners and young people within youth arts.
Some of these services we are able to offer freely, others for a fee.
Who are our partners?
Our ongoing programme includes working in partnership with a diverse range of arts and leisure organisations, local authorities, venues, stauatory youth services, health and social service providers, the Youth Justice sector, funders, young people and others.
Through ENYAN we are also working with other national youth arts networks and organisations across the UK and internationally.
