A Call Out To All Young People Aged 8 – 18 Years
Following the overwhelming success of ‘Scrooge the Musical’ that played to full houses and much acclaim earlier this year the Plough Youth Theatre are now recruiting members for a new term of dramatic workshops which begin on Saturday 26th April.
Almost every Saturday for nearly six years the Plough Arts Centre in Fore Street, Great Torrington has given young people from across North Devon and beyond the opportunity to develop not just theatrical and artistic skills but many life and social skills too as they have worked towards some large scale performances for the general public including ‘Bugsy Malone’ Treasure Island’& ‘Sweeney Todd’. Now it could be your turn to join the fun and see what all the fuss is about as Youth Theatre Director Rob Pudner and his highly skilled creative team including Assistant Director/Stage Manager, Sarah Pester Musical Director, Alan Boxer and Choreographer, Helen Venn gear up for another couple of very exciting projects with the PYT.
The Youth Theatre which recently had a two-page spread in Devon Life Magazine is running workshops on a Saturday, for 8-12 year olds (Juniors) from 10am -1pm and for 13-18 years (Seniors) from 1.30pm-4.30pm. The termly fee for both groups is £70/£64 payable at the start of each term.
In this first term comprising twelve workshops, the Juniors can expect to develop their performance skills without the pressure of a full scale production, using specially developed drama games and exercises, choreography sessions and vocal coaching. These structured sessions will incorporate role play, characterisation, improvisation and physical theatre. The honed skills learned in these workshops will be invaluable as they start working on a musical production when a new term begins in September 2008.
The Seniors kick off with workshop style auditions for Joan Littlewood’s musical entertainment ‘Oh What a Lovely War’ to be performed at the Plough from 8th – 11th November to commemorate 90 years since the end of the First World War and to coincide with the Armistice weekend. Two term’s commitment is necessary to be part of this remarkable piece of musical theatre which will be the Youth Theatre’s eleventh show to the general public since their rebirth in 2002.
The Youth Theatre’s doors are always open to new members and this forthcoming term sees a particular push for 13 – 18 year old lads to be part of ‘Oh What a Lovely War’…so lead the way and enlist today!
