Why ENYAN?

What is ENYAN?

ENYAN, English National Youth Arts Network, was launched on 12 June 2006 and is a new membership body designed to unite the diverse youth arts sector across England and the UK.

ENYAN is delivered by Artswork, the national youth arts development agency and part funded by Arts Council England South East.

Why does ENYAN exist?

There are many people out there working with, or for, young people in the arts and creative industries, so why is there still limited support and recognition for the sector?

ENYAN aims to raise the profile of youth arts across England and the UK. By uniting the sector, ENYAN will create a stronger voice for youth arts, ultimately resulting in more support and recognition for the sector. The network is here to support youth and arts organisations, freelance practitioners, existing local and regional networks and all youth arts professionals, it acts as a resource, and as a sounding board for your work, opinions, concerns and ideas, and encourages the sharing of information and good practice across the sector. ENYAN will advocate on behalf of the sector.

What will ENYAN do? What has ENYAN done?

In addition to the advocacy work as above ENYAN will provide a number of services.

  • ENYAN will provide you with the fantastic resource, the ENYAN website, which is constantly being developed.
  • ENYAN will deliver training courses within your region
  • ENYAN will deliver regional seminar events across the country over the next 2 years and a large national event in the network’s third year.
  • In spring ENYAN will be launching the first annual campaign.
  • ENYAN has already established 9 regional advisory panels across the country (made up of youth arts professionals across the board who meet 2-4 times per year to share local and regional information, issues, opportunities and developments with each other and to provide an opportunity for this information to be shared with the wider youth arts sector at a national level. These groups have also been established to consult with the sector at a regional and local level to ensure that ENYAN, as a network, are supporting you as appropriately as possible).
  • ENYAN has also established links with representatives from similar networks in Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Who is ENYAN for?

An ENYAN membership is for anyone working with, or for, young people within the arts and creative industries. The network is also useful for those working within youth services who take, or would like to take, a creative approach to their work.

Why should I join ENYAN?

  • Firstly, and most importantly, to help to raise the profile of youth arts!

ENYAN recognises that some individuals and organisations may like to trial an ENYAN membership before committing fully. ENYAN also recognises that not everyone is in the position to be able to commit to a full membership at this stage, therefore, ENYAN offers a FREE membership option, which includes access to opportunities for young people, campaigns, regional, national and international contacts, professional development information/opportunities, advice & research and funding information, however, access to other areas of the website are restricted.

  • You can post your own job vacancies for a whole month for just £25 (usual cost £75)
  • Full access to information on youth arts training opportunities, publications, reviews and pathways.
  • Exclusive access to UPSTART Online (specialist online youth arts magazine) including fascinating interviews, articles and case studies with people from the sector
  • Funding news and opportunities
  • Access to youth arts advice and research (for example insurance, legal issues, licensing, events management)

  • Information about and access to contribute to the annual ENYAN campaign
  • Regional, national and international youth arts contacts
  • Access to information on opportunities for young people in your area.
  • 10% discount on training courses
  • Receive a monthly e-bulletin with a summary of youth arts news, events, jobs etc.
  • Up and coming benefits include; the ability to vote online regarding key youth arts issues, ability to read, comment and share opinions on the whole site within the ENYAN online community called ‘Headspace’
  • Benefits are being updated regularly.

How much does it cost?

FULL ENYAN membership is offered for individuals, on an annual basis, at the following rates…

  • Bursary Rate: Full time student/under 18/unwaged – £15
  • Supported Rate: Freelancers – £25
  • Reduced Rate: Individuals from voluntary organisations/charities/not for profit – £40
  • Full Rate: Individuals from the public sector/commercial organisations – £45

*Coming Soon*…ENYAN is committed to being responsive to the needs of the sector and is aware that many organisations require more than one person to have access to membership benefits, therefore, in spring ENYAN will be introducing an organisational membership rate and you will be able to upgrade to this membership in due course if you wish.

All fees from membership go towards the continued development of the network and help ENYAN to raise the profile of youth arts further.

How do I join?

To join the network, as a free or full member, and to show your support for the youth arts sector, just jump onto the ENYAN homepage and click on ‘Subscribe Now’ on the homepage or simply see this link (Subscribe Now!).

You will need to complete an online registration form and subscribe as a free member first. You will then be instructed to choose the most relevant membership for you and can pay online using a credit/debit card or you can download a form to request an invoice/pay by cheque.
